The home is a historical building situated just behind the St Michaels Hospital. The Downes is a grade 2 listed property with 7 acres of historical gardens which are beautifully maintained. It is a two-storey care setting which has a physical environment that has been designed for the convenience and comfort of all its residents.

The Downes has 31 bedrooms many featuring en-suite facilities. We are registered to accommodate people over the age of 65 years. All our lounge areas and bedrooms are tastefully furnished and have been designed to meet a person’s individual health and social needs, to enable a holistic approach to health and wellbeing.

We have a large dining area for residents to enjoy their meals, snacks and refreshments we provide. All meals are prepared daily on the premises. We participate in the Safer Food Better Business programme and our clients are encouraged to eat well with snacks and beverages available throughout the day.  We offer a wide choice of breakfast throughout the morning. A full hot meal and dessert is served at Lunchtime, hot snacks soup and sandwiches followed by fruit/cakes are served early evening. We have menus of the daily choices on display to assist our clients who may have difficulty in communicating. We are also able to offer meals according to an individual’s cultural heritage or personal preferences.

The Downes has a small homely lounge, which provides attractive views over the Grade 2 listed garden. In addition to this lounge there is a large lounge where you can relax, watch a film or television, pursue activities or chat with friends and relatives. On the first floor we also have a quiet, relaxing seating area used as a library.
